Bibiani Gold Stars shock Asante Kotoko in GPL thriller

Bibiani Gold Stars recorded their first win of the season in the Ghana Premier League after defeating Asante Kotoko 2-1 at the Dun's Park on Thursday. The newly-promoted side came from behind to shock the Porcupine Warriors, who had taken the lead through Kwame Opoku in the 18th minute.

The visitors dominated the first half and created several chances, but they were denied by the heroics of Gold Stars goalkeeper Robert Dabuo, who made some crucial saves. Opoku broke the deadlock with a header from a corner kick, giving Asante Kotoko a deserved lead.

However, the hosts came back stronger in the second half and leveled the score in the 57th minute with a spectacular goal from outside the box by Eric Bosumtwi, who unleashed a powerful shot that left Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora with no chance.

The game was evenly poised until the 79th minute, when Asante Kotoko defender Habib Mohammed brought down Prince Opoku Agyemang in the box and conceded a penalty. Agyemang stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick, sending Abalora the wrong way and giving Gold Stars a historic win.

The result left Asante Kotoko in the bottom half of the table with one point from two games, while Bibiani Gold Stars moved up to sixth place with three points. The Porcupine Warriors will be looking to bounce back when they face Dreams FC at home on Sunday, while Gold Stars will travel to face Medeama SC on Monday.
