AAMUSTED Student Dies After Catching Fire in Shocking Ritual - Video

A video of a student who caught fire while performing a ritual on campus has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and sympathy from netizens.

The student, identified as Prosper Owusu, was a third-year mathematics student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Ghana. He was also known as the "chief priest" who led certain traditional rites at the Opoku Ware II Hall of the university.

According to reports, Owusu and some of his hallmates were engaged in various activities outside the hall on Friday, August 25, 2023, when the accident happened. It is unclear what exactly caused the fire, but some eyewitnesses claimed that Owusu was holding a torch that ignited his clothes.

The video shows Owusu running in flames while screaming for help, as his friends tried to put out the fire with water and sand. He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on September 1, 2023.

The university management has launched an investigation into the incident and issued a warning to all students to avoid engaging in risky and illegal activities on campus. The university also expressed its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student.

The video has sparked mixed reactions from social media users, with some condemning the ritual as barbaric and dangerous, while others sympathizing with the victim and his loved ones. Some also questioned the security and safety measures at the university and called for more awareness and education on fire prevention and protection.

The tragic incident has highlighted the need for more caution and responsibility among students, especially when it comes to cultural and religious practices that may pose a threat to their lives and well-being.
