According to eyewitnesses, the caretaker of the building noticed that the pillars were sinking and alerted the workers and tenants to evacuate immediately. Within 30 minutes, the entire building came down with a loud bang, creating panic and fear among the residents. Fortunately, no one was trapped or injured in the collapse, as everyone managed to escape in time.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the collapse. The Public Relations Department of the GNFS said that they could not confirm whether the building had a valid permit or not, and that they doubted the quality of materials used in the construction. The spokesperson, ADO1 Alex King Nartey, said that the tenants were being economical with the truth and that they were trying to protect their landlady.
The collapse of the building has raised concerns about the safety and standards of buildings in Ghana, especially those under construction. Many people have called for stricter regulations and inspections to prevent such disasters from happening again. The authorities have also urged the public to report any suspicious or substandard buildings to them for action.
