FAO National Coordinator for Sustainable Cocoa in Ghana - Job Opportunity

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is looking for a National Coordinator for the Sustainable Cocoa Initiative (SCI) in Ghana. The SCI aims to strengthen the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of the cocoa and chocolate sectors by fostering enabling policies and promoting public and private investments in the cocoa value chain.

As the National Coordinator, you will serve as the focal point for the SCI in Ghana, providing technical and coordination support for the monitoring and implementation of the program. You will also contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of research and evidence-generation activities under the SCI, as well as identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration between the SCI and other FAO activities in the cocoa sector.

To be eligible for this position, you should have:

  • A university degree (preferably a Master’s degree) in Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management or Economics, or other relevant disciplines with a combination of an additional 5 years of relevant professional experience in the cocoa sector in Ghana.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in project coordination.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • National or Resident of Ghana.

You should also have:

  • Experience in participating in multidisciplinary teams for the preparation of strategies and sector studies as well as formulation, implementation support, or evaluation of food security, agriculture, rural development, natural resource management, and value chain development.
  • Experience with cocoa value chains and cross-cutting policy issues.
  • Experience in investment design, implementation support, and evaluation procedures of FAO’s main development partners, in particular the European Union.
  • Strong network and working relationship with the government and relevant stakeholders in the cocoa sector.
  • Demonstrated capacity to write technical reports in English.
  • Limited knowledge of one or two local dialects in the Coastal Landscape of Ghana is considered an asset.

This is a non-staff position with a duration of 11 months. The post is located at the FAO Representation in Accra, Ghana. The deadline for applications is September 7, 2023.
