The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has made a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the country. The GIS officers at the Aflao border in the Volta Region intercepted over 80 slaps of suspected illicit drugs that were being smuggled into Ghana from Togo.

The drugs, which have an estimated street value of GH₵ 4 million, were concealed in a hidden compartment of a Toyota Corolla vehicle with a Nigerian registration number. The vehicle was driven by a Nigerian national who claimed to be a businessman.

The GIS officers became suspicious of the vehicle when they noticed that it had a dent on the rear bumper and a loose number plate. They decided to conduct a thorough search and discovered the drugs wrapped in brown paper and black polythene bags.

The suspect was arrested and handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for further investigations and prosecution. The GIS commended its officers for their vigilance and professionalism in foiling the drug smuggling attempt.

The GIS also warned that it will not tolerate any form of illegal activities at the borders and urged the public to cooperate with them in ensuring the security and safety of the country.
