How Chris Hughton plans to secure Ghana's AFCON qualification

Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, are one win away from qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d'Ivoire. But they face a tough challenge from the Central African Republic, who are also vying for a spot in the continental tournament.

The two teams will clash on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. Ghana currently top Group F with 10 points, while C.A.R are second with nine points. A draw or a win will guarantee Ghana's qualification, while C.A.R need a victory to leapfrog the hosts.

Ahead of the decisive match, Black Stars coach Chris Hughton will face the media in a pre-match press conference at 4:30pm on Wednesday, September 06, 2023. He is expected to shed light on his tactics, squad selection, and injury updates.

Hughton has named a 25-man squad for the match, which includes some surprises and familiar faces. Among the notable inclusions are Medeama SC striker Jonathan Sowah, who scored 12 goals in the Betpawa Premier League; German-based defender Stephan Ambrosius, who switched his international allegiance to Ghana; and unattached captain Andre Ayew, who brings experience and leadership to the team.

However, Hughton will have to cope without Arsenal star Thomas Partey, who is sidelined with a knock he picked up in training. He will also have to decide whether to start Baba Rahman or Gideon Mensah at left-back, and who to partner with Jordan Ayew upfront.

Hughton will also have to devise a strategy to exploit Ghana's strength in the wings, where he has some of the fastest players in global football such as Osman Bukari and Ernest Nuamah. He will also have to deal with C.A.R's defensive approach and physicality.

The press conference will be an opportunity for Hughton to address these issues and more, as well as to rally the support of the fans and the media. It will also be a chance for him to express his confidence and optimism ahead of the crucial match.

The press conference will be streamed live on Ghana FA's website and Radio Univers 105.7fm. You can also follow the updates on GhanaWeb and GhanaSoccernet. Don't miss this chance to hear from the man who could lead Ghana to AFCON glory.
